I recorded this yesterday and it’s hilarious. It’s also awesome. Basically, my 2 recent attempts to recreate the 80’s powerpop style of “Cynthia” (posted earlier), resulted in what sounds like over-produced post grunge (think Gavin Rossdale fronting Sponge). I don’t know where it came from, other than the overly nostalgic portions of my subconsiousness. It’s not very “indie-rock” or anything like that. It sounds like a one hit wonder circa 1995. Hope you find it as funny as I do.
Hiya Jonathonian. Thought I’d stop by and smell the flowers (by which I mean hear your music).
Do I find this as funny as you do? Probably, but for different reasons. I don’t know what “post-grunge” sounds like, but this track sounds to me like some 80’s post-new wave, early Cult sounding razz-ma-tazz. And that singing…dude, are you taking amphetamines? Well done.
I do really like the juxtaposition into the lead around the 2:00 mark. As we found recently working together, recording direct-input usually does not cut it for guitar by making the tone too thin and separating from the rest of the track. I think it can work, but only if tweaked exceptionally (by that I mean exact tuning, “tone-dialing” and levels in the mix). But this is perhaps too much rambling in contrast to your post, haha.
I must leave you with this excellent, excellent Cocteau Twins video. It is funnier than your song, but for reasons that they should be ashamed of: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bdlw7blqan8
