Julia, I can’t Run Anymore

I originally wrote this song for my high school band when I was 14.  The title comes from an exclaimation made by my friends little sister while we were out sledding (that’s right, in the snow).  If I can find a copy of the original version, I’ll post it.  This version was adapted to the slapstick style of the Art Department, becuase I found it was fun to apply songs I had already written to the style of the Art Department. The Art Department was the first fake band that I invented by developing the ideas of the players in the band and thier playing syles/philosophy before writing and recording the music.  Other fake bands, like the surf band, came mostly from thoughts like “I want to make surf music!”  The Art Department was a bit more of an experiment; character development through music.

On a separate note: I have just been informed that Washington DC’s public radio station, WAMU, is cutting ALL of thier musical programming.  Their Sunday broadcast typically featured a classic country program, a bluegrass program, Dick Spottswood’s folk rarity show, and a musical biography show where they chronicle the life a musician while playing cuts that exemplify the life of the musician.  All of these programs are amazing, and they will no longer air on AMU, and that’s FUCKED!  The music will exist on HD radio, but no one in thier right mind would ever pay money for an HD radio when there is satellite radio, ipods, iphones,  or even CD-R’s and cassette tapes. I know this sounds like a call to arms, but there is nothing to be done but to stir in angst.
